Chicken-Bacon-Ranch (CBR) is a popular combination of ingredients in American cuisine. In the combo, chicken is the main protein source, bacon adds a salty and smoky flavor, and the ranch dressing adds a creamy and tangy flavor. CBR is often used as a topping or filling in sandwiches, wraps, pizzas, salads, and other dishes. This CBR hot dog is a bacon-wrapped chicken sausage with ranch dressing and arugula for a little crunch.
When it comes to the specific ingredients, we want to start by selecting the right sausage. Many chicken sausages have a strong sausage flavor and just a hint of chicken flavor. Because the bacon will bring the salty and smoky flavor, the sausage wants to have a more pronounced chicken flavor. That said, any chicken sausage will do; everything tastes good wrapped in bacon and the flavor of the sausage simply alters the flavor profile of the sandwich.
Regular-cut bacon is better for wrapping the dog than thick-cut bacon because the wrapped dog gets too fat with thick-cut. If the sausage has a salty flavor, this might be a good time to use low-sodium bacon. The size of the dog will influence how much bacon will be needed. A single slice will probably not be enough. If two slices is too much it can be overlapped more when wrapping to fit both slices, or the bacon can be cut to use one and a half slices.
The bacon-wrapped sausage will get so thick that it could be a challenge to fit inside a regular hot dog bun. Hoagie rolls are a better choice for this sandwich.

Equipment that I used:
- Plastic Cutting Board: Whenever I handle raw bacon, I do it on a plastic cutting board that I throw into the dishwasher directly afterwards to prevent any risk of spreading foodborne contaminants..
- Countertop Oven. If I’m only cooking one or two bacon-wrapped hot dogs, I cook them on foil in my countertop oven because it uses the least amount of energy, it’s the easiest to clean up after, and I can toast the buns in there as well.
- Toothpicks: It’s helpful to use toothpicks to fasten the ends of the bacon to the hot dogs. Just remember to remove them before serving.

Notes
- Try to use a chicken frank or chicken sausage that has a strong chicken flavor and a less-strong sausage flavor.
- Use thin-cut bacon, and consider using low-sodium bacon if the dog has a lot of salt.
- Use a hoagie roll instead of a standard-size hot dog bun.
